Storage Upminster Modern Slavery Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps Storage Upminster has taken, and continues to take, to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking from taking place within our business operations and supply chains. Storage Upminster is committed to conducting business ethically, with integrity, and in full compliance with applicable laws relating to modern slavery.
Our Zero-Tolerance Approach
Storage Upminster adopts a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, child labour and exploitation. We will not knowingly engage with any organisation, supplier or contractor that is involved in or connected to modern slavery practices. This commitment applies to all areas of our operation, including the sourcing of goods, works and services, and the management of our facilities.
All staff, contractors and business partners are expected to act in line with our values and our zero-tolerance stance. Breaches of this policy may result in disciplinary action, removal from site, or termination of contracts and commercial relationships.
Our Business and Supply Chains
Storage Upminster provides storage and related services to customers and businesses. Our supply chains include providers of building maintenance, cleaning, security, utilities, equipment, information technology, and professional services. While we consider the overall risk of modern slavery in our sector to be relatively low, we recognise that no organisation is immune and we remain vigilant and proactive.
Supplier Due Diligence and Audits
We are committed to working only with suppliers and contractors who share our commitment to fair treatment, safe working conditions and respect for human rights. To support this, we take the following steps:
We conduct proportionate due diligence on new suppliers, assessing their policies, practices and track record in relation to modern slavery and labour standards. Where appropriate, we request information on their own supply chains and the steps they are taking to mitigate risk.
We seek contractual assurances that suppliers comply with all relevant laws relating to modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour and child labour. We reserve the right to terminate relationships where compliance is not maintained.
We carry out risk-based audits and reviews of selected suppliers. These may include site visits, document reviews and conversations with management regarding working conditions, recruitment practices and workforce wellbeing.
Where issues are identified, we expect timely corrective actions. Failure to address concerns satisfactorily may result in suspension or termination of the business relationship.
Reporting Channels and Raising Concerns
Storage Upminster encourages a culture of openness and responsibility. We want employees, contractors, suppliers and customers to feel confident raising concerns about modern slavery or unethical practices. Concerns can be reported in person to management or through established internal reporting routes. Reports can be made anonymously if preferred.
All reports are treated seriously and handled sensitively. We will investigate any allegation of modern slavery related to our operations or supply chains and will take appropriate remedial action where necessary. No one who raises a concern in good faith will suffer any detrimental treatment as a result of reporting.
Training and Awareness
We provide training and guidance, as appropriate, to staff whose roles involve procurement, facilities management or supplier oversight. This training helps colleagues understand what modern slavery is, how to recognise potential warning signs, and the correct procedures for escalating concerns. We periodically remind staff of our zero-tolerance policy and expectations of ethical conduct.
Monitoring, Governance and Annual Review
Responsibility for overseeing our approach to modern slavery rests with the senior management of Storage Upminster. They ensure that this statement, and the measures described in it, are implemented and embedded throughout the business.
We monitor the effectiveness of our actions through regular review of supplier performance, incident reports, audit findings and feedback from staff and other stakeholders. Where opportunities for improvement are identified, we adjust our processes and policies accordingly.
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed annually to ensure it remains accurate, relevant and reflective of best practice and legal requirements. The review considers changes in our business operations, evolving risks within our supply chains, and updates to applicable legislation and guidance.
Continuous Improvement
Storage Upminster remains committed to continuously improving our approach to identifying, preventing and addressing modern slavery. We will continue to strengthen our due diligence, enhance our supplier engagement, and promote awareness among staff and partners, so that together we help eradicate modern slavery in all its forms.
